Central European Wine Tours
Taking You to the Heart of Europe’s Vines…
Our Philosophy
Wine is a social drink, best shared with friends new and old. To that end, we want to acquaint you with some excellent vintners and their wines. On our tours, you rarely meet a hired representative; instead, you meet the winemaker him/herself. With an itinerary crafted according to your desires, we carefully curate whom you visit, focusing on natural winemakers who work cleanly, with minimal inputs in their vineyards and cellars. We understand that these vintners make wines that most purely express their region, their village, their own unique plot of land. Through our tours, you will gain an intimate taste of Central Europe.
Choose Your Tour
From day trips to in-depth multi-day excursions, we will guide you to the beautiful wines, vintners, and landscapes of Central Europe. We will tailor your private tour with visits, activities, and lodging according to your wishes. Our trips also make for an excellent method to move between the major cities of Central Europe. A simple transfer between Prague, Vienna, Dresden, Bratislava or Budapest becomes an exploration with a stop in the local vineyards. And a multi-day tour can take you from the hum-drum of cities into smaller viticultural towns, providing a much more rounded experience of the countries you visit.
A Day in Bohemian Vineyards
Meeting vintners in their fields and cellars will offer you insights into the challenges and delicious rewards of Bohemian wine-making. These are stories best heard with a floral white or crystalline red in hand…

Whether you go east or west on this 8-hour tour, Bohemia hides evocative vineyards for the aficionado to discover. From the sea-formed, silvered slopes of Kutná Hora or the volcanic terroirs of Litoměřice, you will learn all about balance and delicacy, and the challenges of growing immaculate grapes in one of the northernmost wine regions in Europe. In Kutná Hora, passion and good humor have fueled the area’s biodynamic vineyards, while in the region of Litoměřice, romantics have resurrected old plots to create some of the country’s most celebrated wines. Stroll the historic landscapes of Bohemia before sampling Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Tramín (the Jura’s Savagnin), the traditional favorites here; but, why not discover an elegant Svatovavřinecké (Sankt Laurent), Chardonnay, or Pinot Gris as well?

Moravia in a Day... GO!
Moravia deserves more than a day, but it’s just enough time to delight you with amiable whites and surprise you with developed reds. Take a moment to admire the rolling landscapes, but take more time to learn about the Moravians’ affection for grapes like Frankovka, André, Veltlínské zelené, and Pálava…
Show More
oravia’s wine history goes back to at least the Romans, and it comes to us in fits and starts of success and obscurity. But after the disastrous policies of Communism and some misguided exploits of the past 30 years, Moravia has arrived to another exciting chapter of its story: The wines are good! They are fresh and clean and they might make you want to sing. At the very least, they will make you smile, for Moravian wines are, without exception, wines for happiness. What does that mean? Find out on the tour!
Besides meeting makers like Milan Nestarec and the Herzán family (Vína Herzánovi), you will have the chance to stroll through the vineyards and villages of the region’s bucolic landscapes. Of course, we will introduce you to some fine Moravian cooking.
As Moravia consists of 4 sub-regions, we’ll barely have the time to scratch the surface of this beautiful, pastoral land. Please contact us so we can design the one-day tour that is right for you. With an additional fee, a tour that includes a transfer to / from Vienna or Bratislava can easily be arranged.

Prague Vineyards
Hidden below châteaux, monasteries, or sometimes next to simple homes, Prague’s vineyards today are often vestiges of their medieval sprawl. Their presence evokes a pre-industrial era, when land, not factories, produced wealth and status. Back then, vineyards supplied a sanitized drink and sacramental wine for the denizens of Prague, while other plots were reserved for lords and ladies’ enjoyment. On this 4-hour tour, you’ll learn all about the vineyards and taste from the nobler selection…

Whether strolling through the Svatá Klára vineyard or discovering a small plot in the city, you will have a chance to learn about the forgotten history of Prague’s vineyards, and taste from their rediscovered terroirs. Dry, complex Rieslings and ephemeral Pinot Noirs reign in this imperial city, but you will certainly taste the noblesse of many different varieties.

Moravia Multi-Day
Two days? Three? Now you’re moving at a Moravian speed! Learn your pace from the region’s rounded hills that rise and fall, rise and fall. Get an in-depth taste of one or two of Moravia’s four sub-regions, or uncover the variety of styles which all these areas produce.
In the sub-region of Slovácko, forest-crowned vineyards gently descend to the sandy rises near the Morava River. In the Velkopavlovická sub-region, the steep, loessic hillsides make the best wines. Farmers long ago knew this, and today’s artisans like Standa Charvát and Vína Herzánovi affirm it. The pure limestone subsoil of the Mikulovská area supports the country’s most ambitious vineyards, while in Znojmo, an ancient seabed meets the Bohemian Massif to grow some of the country’s best Grüner Veltliners.
Between tastings you will have the chance to walk the attractive trails that wend through these historic landscapes, sample the local delicacies, and discover how full a day can be when you move at a slightly gentler pace.

Austria Multi-Day
Many think of Austria as Vienna, Mozart, the Alps, and The Sound of Music, but only Feinshmeckers would count Austria among the great wine countries of the world. Why not be a Feinshmecker? From the celebrated UNESCO-protected vineyards of the Wachau Valley to the gentle slopes of the Burgenland; from the elegant whites of Styria to the confidential productions of the Thermenregion, happy Austria creates wines for every fine taster!

Slovakia Multi-Day
Upper Hungary. The Rump-end of the name Czechoslovakia. But, since its independence, Slovakia has been making its own name – sometimes bad (1990s politics), sometimes good – the wines! The undiscovered and underappreciated vinous traditions in this country go back hundreds, if not thousands, of years, but maybe the wines have never been so delicious…
Show More
The cool, beautiful, Carpathian Mountains make up much of Slovakia, and where they don’t, rests the hot, Pannonian Plain. Their interplay makes for spectacular scenery and exciting terroirs that have produced internationally lauded wines found on the lists of London’s 67 Pall-Mall or NOMA in Copenhagen. On this tour, discover just how delicately granite can whisper when translated by Riesling or how gently a volcano speaks through Blaufränkisch.
If Slovak wines softly describe beauty, the landscapes shout it. Experience the beautiful vistas with a walk among the vineyards and forests, or a visit to a historic town that will punctuate your vinous adventures.

Tokaj (Hungary and Slovakia)
No region holds more mystique than Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, but Tokaj’s vineyards come a close second. Bordeaux may boast gravel, Piedmont its sands and clay, Mosel its schists and shales, but Tokaji vineyards have been formed from lava and ash, and the others pale in comparison. In a few vineyards, opals just lay in the dirt, slowly yielding their luminous presence to the grapes that root through them. But one does not need gems to find riches in the glass: From scintillating dry whites from producers like Szóló to the stupefyingly beautiful aszú wines of makers like Demeter Zoltán, Tokaj’s taste and vineyards will leave you awed by the complexity of this vastly under-appreciated region.
Visiting with Central European Wine Tours will give you access to quality producers both large, like Oremus, and small, like Kaláka. We can explore the producers of Tokaji wines in nearby Slovakia as well, simply to discover all facets of this region that produced “The wine of kings, the king of wines.”
In addition to meeting master winemakers, the rolling Zemplen Mountains offer castles and landscapes that demand exploration. Hungarian cuisine begs to be discovered too; you will learn how the dry and sweet Tokaji wines marry with the traditional dishes of the region.

Hungary Multi-Day
France, Italy, Spain, decidedly the three greatest wine-producing countries in the world. But who comes fourth? Hungary could make a strong claim. From the limestones subsoils of Villany, to the volcanic soils of Somló and their marriage around Lake Balaton (And don’t get us started on Tokaj!), Hungary soils have produced imperial wines for centuries upon centuries…

Maybe grapes like Kadarka, Juhfark, or Királyleányka don’t send shivers of pleasure down your spine yet; but after this tour, they will. These, and other more easily pronounceable grapes like Cabernet Franc find their supreme expressions in the various regions of Hungary. We promise to create superlative wine experiences for you in Hungary, even if we cannot promise that you’ll be able to pronounce the Hungarian names correctly.
To maximize pleasure by minimizing driving, we recommend exploring only one or two of the regions over the course of the tour. Somló and the Balaton, for example, will easily fill up your time with beautiful memories and stunning wines.

About Me
Wine might be one of humanity’s earliest obsessions, and it took hold of me almost 20 years ago while leading bike tours throughout France.
Burgundy, Bordeaux, Provence—these regions are enough for anybody, but I found myself drawn more and more to forgotten, curious appellations like Ayze, Coullioure, or Madiran. When I moved to Prague in 2013, the little-known patchwork vineyards of the Czech Republic already felt like home. This country and Central Europe have their own grapes, their own histories, and their own traditions which rival Western Europe’s (and sometimes surpass them). With over 17 years of tourism experience, I am eager to share with you the joy of meeting the vintners, walking the landscapes, and of course, discovering authentic wines and cuisine: Allow me to lead you to some very pleasant surprises.
— Justin Wuycheck
Testimonials
“My first wine-tasting experience in the Czech Republic was truly exceptional, and it was Justin who made it unforgettable. From the moment we met, his expertise was evident. Justin has an impressive depth of knowledge about Czech wines, particularly the unique varietals and winemaking methods from Moravia. His passion for the region, coupled with his personal connections to the winemakers, made each stop feel like an intimate journey through Czech wine culture.
The day before our trip to Moravia, Justin took me to a charming wine bar just outside Prague’s city center, where we tasted a diverse selection of wines to help me get a feel for the region’s offerings before the big day. The itinerary in Moravia was thoughtfully curated, and I felt genuinely welcomed at each winery, as if invited into the winemaker’s home. Justin was more than willing to answer all my questions and even acted as a translator, helping me dive deeper into the details of each wine—its production, the local history, and the tasting notes.
If you’re looking for a wine experience that’s both informative and immersive, I highly recommend Justin. What sets him apart is his ability to create a personalized experience. He doesn’t just take you to wineries; he fosters a connection with the people and the land behind each bottle. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned wine lover, his approach will leave you with a deeper appreciation for Czech wines and the stories behind them.”
– Jamie Sauls

He listens, asks, creates, plans and executes incredibly spot-on events, allowing me to simply relax and enjoy. Always new and exciting!”
